Burning a book considered holy to many people is stupid. I would say this if it was a Bible, Book of Mormon or a Quran. Here we have Pastor Terry Jones - a man who has admittedly never read the Quran - deciding to stage a book burning on September 11, 2010. What does this mean? This means, that on the world stage, the US will once again look like a group of intolerant hicks. Does Terry Jones care? No he doesn’t. He has been told that there might be retaliation against American troops stationed overseas and currently fighting a war. He doesn’t care. He has been asked by US leaders to not burn the books. He doesn’t care. He has been universally panned. Again, he doesn’t care.

Terry Jones is a symbol of all that is wrong with intolerance. He is a symbol of all that is wrong with freedom. He has the freedom to do this in my country. He has the freedom to say what he wants to say. However, he lacks the absolute common sense to know that just because you can do something doesn’t mean you should. I wish we could get rid of people like this, but we can’t. They have as much of a right to be here as the rest of us. What can we do? Instead of glorifying this guy, we need to open our mouths and condemn him. We need to send people like this a clear message. That message is that their type of hate is not welcome within a civilized society.

We can’t stop Pastor Terry Jones’ book burning. However, we can call it very stupid and we can stick together in our worldwide condemnation of his behavior and the behavior of people like him - people who would destroy our peace and civility. Radicalism on any side is just wrong. Being an American doesn’t make it right or acceptable. Thankfully, the world is speaking out against this man. Hopefully, he will gain some common sense before 9/11!

Wow! Another man was shot by Washington State police officers today. This is crazy. There have been something like three or four killings by police officers this past week in Washington and none of the people had a gun. It is amazing to me that cops are killing people like this. They are acting as judge and jury for people. Now don’t get me wrong - I love cops. I love them because they are responsible for running TO crimes when other people are running FROM crimes. They do a hard job and don’t make anywhere close to what they should make for the job they do.

My problem is that these officers in Washington are killing people when they don’t have to. They are not using available non-lethal weapons. Why aren’t they using tasers? Why aren’t they shooting people in the leg or arm? I know that their training teaches them to shoot to kill, but what they are doing is not right. It is very stupid not to follow the instructions of police officers, but you shouldn’t die when you only have a knife in your hands. Several of the people shot by cops in Washington State only had knives in their hands. The officer doesn’t have to get close up on the people AND the officers could shoot them in the leg, the arm or use a taser. I don’t get it.

Officers shooting and killing people who don’t have guns is very stupid! However, don’t make yourself a target if you happen to be driving through Washington. Chris Rock offers us some wise words when it comes to dealing with police. I think it offers some good tips for all - LOL. So do what cops tell you to do, don’t have knives and stay out of Washington State. To the cops - stop killing people! Doing that is very stupid!

I just read an article about Obama and how he became unpopular. The article, and the comments that followed afterward, were just stupid! Very, very stupid! I am not going to go into all of the things the article touched on, but I will say this. Bush was in office for 8 years. It took 8 years to work our way into a hole. It surprises me that people are so ignorant as to how long it will take to get us out. Instead, of going through things piece by piece, I’m going to write what I wrote as a response to the comments on Yahoo. Here you go.

Some of you people are such sheep. First of all, Barack can’t solve the problems in this country overnight. This mess was created by 8 years of Republican ignorance. 8 YEARS! IT TOOK 8 YEARS TO WORK UP THIS MESS AND YOU THINK IT WILL TAKE 1 OR 2 TO MAKE IT RIGHT? Give me a break! Some of you don’t think. Obama isn’t a god. He is a man. It takes time for him to accomplish things. What has he done thus far?

1. Passed health care reform enabling those without health care to get it - like they do in other industrialized countries.

2. Passed sweeping finance reform that affects everything from credit cards to student loans.

3. Ended the Iraq War

4. Bailed out American struggling auto companies that were going UNDER.

5. Helped to stabilize the banking system so that more banks didn’t go under.

Now is everything perfect? Of course not! Of course NOT! It takes time. For all of you who expected something overnight, you need to get a grip. For all of you who don’t think he has done anything, you need to get a grip to. 8 does not equal 1 or 2. It took 8 years of Bush to get here and it will take more than 1 or 2 of Barack to help get us out!! Wake up and stop feeding into political BS!!!

The whole piece was just very stupid.

Here is the article.

Lavena Johnson died. This fact is refutable. The problem is that the government initially ruled that her death was a suicide. Her family, however, wouldn’t let things go. After the body came home, they saw that suicide wasn’t the likely cause of Lavena’s death. She had a black eye, acid had been poured on her and she had a bullet wound. What in the world is going on?

Lavena’s story is really sad because it not only means that a young woman serving this country is dead, it also means that someone, possibly someone in the military, might have killed her! What is going on here? Who is the real enemy? I hope her family finds the truth. I need more information about this story, but so far it would appear that calling Lavena’s death a suicide is very stupid!

I’m so sick of marginal women having children and then killing them! That is why I have sad over and over again that we need some sort of test to screen these people BEFORE they are allowed to have kids. I know it sounds harsh, but it really would be best. You can’t become an accountant without a passing a test. You can’t even become a hairdresser legally without passing a test. You can’t drive without passing a test. Raising children is more important than those things right? Where is the test? We should at least have a psychological test. Anyway, Shaquan Duley proves my point.

Shaquan Duley is a 29 year old woman. She had three children - a 5 year old little girl, an 18 month old little boy and a 2 year old little boy. Shaquan was living with her kids at the home of her grandmother. Shaquan, allegedly overwhelmed by her unemployment and lack of desire to continue raising the kids, suffocated the two boys, strapped them into her car and drove her car into a river. The little girl was not murdered. After driving the kids into the river, Shaquan walked some distance away from the river and then flagged down a passing motorist for “help”. Of course, by the time helped arrived, the kids were already dead. Shaquan Duley then lied to police before finally confessing that she killed the kids. How sick is that?

I can understand not wanting kids. Kids can make you feel that way sometimes when they are not behaving. However, I can’t understand killing them. I can even understand someone wanting to kill their kids, but I just can’t understand anyone actually doing it - especially a mother. This woman had three kids in the span of five years. If you don’t want kids - why have them? There is a choice there you know? She could have had an abortion once she got pregnant after the first one. I’m not sure if government health care pays for abortions. If it doesn’t, it sure should since I’m sure that is what she had. If you don’t want the responsibility, put the kids in foster care, give them to an adoption agency, take them to a church or ask a family member to take them. Whatever you do, don’t kill them. They didn’t ask to be here! We can’t even blame this one on being young. This woman wasn’t a teenage parent when she had her first child! She was 24 years old!

I think that it should be absolutely MANDATORY that people pass a psychological test AND that people pass a basic skills test. They should also be made aware of the resources of available to people who need help. This woman has committed one of the most horrible offenses we can imagine a parent committing - but she isn’t the first and won’t be the last. This issue crosses racial lines, it crosses economic lines and it knows no boundaries - but it should. An American woman in Scotland, Theresa Riggi, murdered her three children and tried to kill herself because she was going through a divorce and custody battle last week. Parental murders are horrible, but not figuring out if you should or should not be a parent BEFORE you become one is just very, very stupid!

May the children of Shaquan Duley and Theresa Riggi rest in peace and may the parents who commit crimes against their children die a slow and painful death. There are many alternatives to getting help with your children and none of those alternatives include murder.

I love Twitter, but I just came across a site that sent chills up and down my spine and not in a good way. This site allows you to see where people are tweeting from. Sounds great - unless you are tweeting from the comfort of your home and don’t want people to know where you are! The site is called http://icanstalku.com/ and it allows people to know where you are. How many of you feel really comfortable with that? Instead of going on and on about this site, I’m going to let you be the judge.

Being geo-tagged with your ACTUAL ADDRESS while you tweet is just plain stupid on so many levels for so many reasons!

http://icanstalku.com/

UPDATE:

FYI - Just so I am clear, this service posts your ACTUAL ADDRESS in many instances. Going back and forth between this site and Twitter can show you what I am talking about. Pull up both sites and go look at the Twitter account of a poster with the address showing. You will see that the person does NOT tweet their address, however, the address is on I Can Stalk U. Here is a picture of what I am talking about.

I thought I had seen it all - or very close to all. The Associated Press reminded me this morning that I have not seen it all. I woke up this morning and followed my daily routine of reading through the news in the US and around the world. I discovered that 6 children drowned in Louisiana. As I perused the article, my sadness turned to stark horror and then outrage. I was outraged over the racially charged statements made by the reporter writing the article. The article stated the following.

Shreveport Assistant Fire Chief Fred Sanders said he believed the victims, ages 13 to 18, included three brothers from one family and a sister and two brothers from another.

“They were out here with some adults. But unfortunately, neither the children nor the adults could swim,” he said.

Swimming skills can be scarce among African-Americans like the teens in this tragedy. A study commissioned by the sports governing body USA Swimming found 69 percent of black children had low or no swimming ability. Segregation kept blacks out of public and private pools for decades and the disparity continues because many poor and working class children have limited access to pools or instruction.

Sanders said victims’ names may be released Tuesday, after the department is sure relatives have been notified.

The teens had started playing in a familiar area but ended up at a spot in the river where the bottom fell suddenly and that’s where divers found the bodies, Sanders said.

What????? The comments on Yahoo under the article were as bad, if not worse, than the article itself. Now I am all for freedom of expression, but to state that “swimming skills can be scarce among African-Americans” in a news article is just far beyond unacceptable. Do people of other ethnic backgrounds not drown? I would never have thought that an article about the death of 6 children would be a place where racism and racist attitudes would show its ugly head. I guess I was being very stupid in this case. This reporter needs to be reprimanded for not simply reporting the news. The addition of information on the presumed swimming skills of African Americans is just woefully out of place. It draws attention away from the tragedy and makes the writer look like an uninformed racist perpetuating stereotypes - in my opinion. This also takes away from the fact that white people - both adults and children - drown all the time. I’m not sure if the reporter would add something like this to an article about white people, but the fact that he or she added it to this article is just unacceptable. I have seen lots of articles about drowning. Never once have I seen a quote about the swimming abilty of white people. Have you?

The Associated Press and this reporter should be ashamed for putting this out into the world. It is wrong, unncessary and hurtful and it feeds into the entire racially stereotypical view of blacks. I think the way this story was written by this reporter is just very, very stupid.

Here is a link to the article so that you can read it and the comments people made about it on Yahoo. I have also included it here just in case it gets removed before you have a chance to read it.

SHREVEPORT, La. – Six teenagers wading in the shallows of a Louisiana river drowned in front of their horrified families after falling into deep water. None of the teens or nearby adults could swim.

A seventh teen, a 14-year-old boy, was rescued. Officials scheduled a news conference Tuesday to release more details about the deaths Monday in the Red River, in a popular recreational area where sand bars give way to 20-foot depths.

“They had one lifejacket here. As you can imagine, everybody started yelling for help,” said Caddo Parish sheriff’s spokeswoman Cindy Chadwick.

Marilyn Robinson, a friend of the families, told The Times of Shreveport she watched helplessly as the victims went under. She said a large group of family and friends, including roughly 20 children, were out at the sandbar to barbecue and have a good time. They frequent the area and were familiar with the water, Robinson said.

“None of us could swim,” she said. “They were yelling ‘help me, help me. Somebody please help me.’ It was nothing I could do but watch them drown one by one.”

Sanders said he did not know whether one teen fell and pulled down others, or if they were trying to rescue each other.

It took more than three hours to find all the bodies, he said.

“It’s devastating,” Sanders said. “To my knowledge the city has never experienced an incident of this magnitude.”

Rescue crews were delayed a bit because the accident was reported as near the Jimmie Davis Bridge but was nearly a mile away, Sanders said.

The families were in a recreational area of the Red River that has sand bars, Sanders said. The park is a popular picnic and fishing area and some people do go wading.

I hate the iPhone! It is a well-made phone, but Apple’s control measures are Draconian at best. I’m tired of being told what apps I can and cannot have on my phone. I’m tired of being unable to tether my laptop to my phone. I’m tired of not being able to make phone calls in areas where other people (specifically Verizon’s Crackberry heads) can make calls. The iPhone is great for people who don’t travel across the country, but it is NOT great for people who travel a lot. I need to make the move to the Droid X. Anyway, this rant isn’t about my level of satisfaction with this phone. What this IS about is the fact that there are apps on the phone that I don’t want. I will spare you more of my “hate my phone” speech and just tell you how to remove YouTube, how to remove Safari and how to remove iTunes. First, let me just add that you should be able to just press on it and delete it like you can delete the apps from the app store. Why are Youtube, the stock app, Safari, the weather and the clock special to Apple? Why are they trying to make them special to me? Anyway, here we go.

Press Settings on your iPhone

Select General

Select Restrictions

Enable Restrictions by pressing the button at the top

Slide the items you want to remove to the OFF position.

That is it! You can now have your phone without YouTube, Safari, iTunes, etc. I’m really upset that I have to do this, but I guess you do what you have to do. Making me jump through hoops to remove apps is just very stupid!

I am so sick of Apple! While I have to accept the fact that the company makes good products, I absolutely abhor the control that Steve Jobs wants to have over every facet of the way the products are used. One thing that really bothers me is the rejection of Flash. I understand Steve’s points about Flash, but if I want to drain my battery or waste my time downloading a flash app, that should be my choice! Steve keeps pushing Html5 as the solution to all things currently Flash, but that is so incredibly wrong! Flash does so much more than just basic video display, text changing and rotating and for Steve to not recognize that or care about that makes me sick.

Apple created a showcase that displays some of the things that Html5 can do, but even those samples don’t work fully. Click on this page. If you aren’t using a MAC and a certain version of Safari, the page won’t load. WHAT? Do you mean that the Html5 standard that is supposed to “save” us from Flash doesn’t work unless you have certain things set up in a certain way? Ridiculous!

It wouldn’t have hurt Apple to include Flash support. However, it does hurt anyone who doesn’t understand EXACTLY ALL of the things Flash can do. Adobe is acting like a group of kids right now. They aren’t coming out swinging here. Give us an ad campaign that shows all of the things Flash does. It does sooooo much more than people are giving it credit for. I don’t expect the end users to know everything that it does, but the developers know. Adobe, give me something darnit!!!!

Eliminating Flash from devices is very stupid. Thinking that a specification that isn’t fully written and hasn’t been fully adopted in the same way by all browsers isn’t smart or wise. Apple is concerned with Apple - not with how people deliver content. Html5 might get the job done AT SOME POINT IN THE FUTURE, but right now it isn’t as full featured as Flash. Thinking otherwise is just very stupid.

What is wrong with people? Specifically, what is wrong with General McChrystal. He must be crazy! Why do I say this? Well it should be obvious. He is/was a commanding general commanding troops in a war. Why in the world would you make the decision to talk to a magazine like Rolling Stone? That has to be the most ignorant thing I’ve ever heard of! Doesn’t he have something better to do with his time? The very idea of a general who is in charge of a branch of the armed forces during a war doing something like this is just insane.

Whatever happened to national security? Did General McChrystal think that there would be some benefit to talking about the war with a magazine? Did he think that it would make the troops feel better or somehow help the military win the war? I don’t think he thought about that at all or, if he did, he just didn’t care. It is one thing to voice your opinion, but when you are in the military and a commanding general, you can’t go off talking to a magazine because you are upset about your boss. You have to man up and discuss the issues you have with your boss. Now this decorated general is going to lose his job because he displayed insubordination.

I wish General McChrystal well. As you likely already know, Obama fired him. However, I want him to think. the next time you get a high ranking job and you don’t like something your boss is doing, go discuss that with your boss instead of talking behind his back. To do otherwise is just plain stupid!
