WHAT I THINK ABOUT THE STUPID STUFF GOING ON IN THE WORLD
There is really something crazy going on in America. Obama got the health care bill passed - which I think is great. However, many people are upset because of the requirement that people will have to buy a health insurance plan. Although everyone will get money to use toward the plan of their choice, you still have people who are upset that they have to do it. How freaking stupid can people be?
How do you know you are going to have a car accident? Exactly! You don’t know when you are going to have a car accident. That is why they call it a car ACCIDENT! If everyone had a choice, I’m sure everyone would choose to not have an accident. Since we can’t decide when we will have an accident, we have auto insurance. That insurance protects us by providing us with the opportunity to be paid for the car we crashed as well as providing medical insurance in case we are injured in the accident. Not to mention all of the provisions available to protect people we may hit in an accident. What if we hit a bicyclist by accident? Well auto insurance can take care of that. Auto insurance is a good thing and it is required.
Now health insurance is going to operate in the same way and we have some people losing their minds. Why? Don’t people realize that they can’t predict when or if they will get cancer? Why should everyone else have to share the burden of the uninsured just because some people don’t want to get coverage? When people have an accident they might not be injured. If you have to go to the doctor’s office, something is likely wrong. How do you know your kidney won’t go out. How do you know that your eyes won’t fail? How do you know that you won’t accidentally fall? How do you know that something won’t fall on you? A guy in North Carolina was killed by a plane while he was walking on the beach. Now the truth is that he won’t have to worry about health insurance, but what if he was just injured and he didn’t have insurance?
I had a very bad car accident last year. I have health insurance and car insurance. My health care bills were about $30K not to even mention the amount of money my insurance company paid me for my vehicle. Do you know what would have happened if I didn’t have insurance? Aside from possibly facing a fine, the bills would have gone unpaid and the hospital would have had to write off my bill. You know who ends up paying for those kinds of things in the long run? All of us! People don’t realize that this health care bill will make it easier on everyone. Why is that so hard for people to understand? So what if someone tells you that you have to buy a policy! The government is going to provide a subsidy so you can get the insurance you need. If you already have insurance, you won’t have to worry about it. However, if you lose your coverage and end up needing a policy the insurance company won’t be able to tell you that they won’t cover your preexisting conditions. You will be able to get coverage.
People, we aren’t the first country to do this. We need to get over the shock and move on and be happy that someone cares about the people who don’t have insurance and cares about making health care more affordable. Getting those people on board makes it better for all of us - whether you realize it or not. Not having health insurance is just very stupid!!

Apparently, this must be a left wing site because I just sent a reply to this ridiculousness and was told it was too spammy. What the is that all about? Stop eating the bullcrap sandwich and drinking the stupid flavor of kool-aid and ACTUALLY READ the so-called reform; THE WHOLE THING. It is not about health care. It is about government controlling what you think, do, say, eat, drink, etc. There are things in this sham that usurp parental rights. I’ll bet you did not know that. It is anti-Constitutional, infringes on the rights of people who want nothing to do with health care due to relligious reasons. Religious freedom is a Constitutional guarantee but health care for all is NOT in the Constitution. As for the subsidies go, where do you think the subsidies will come from. Please permit me to inform you…THE TAX PAYER. DUH! The tax payer now pays an aggregate tax bill of 51%. This will add just that much more. Why is it so hard for YOU to understand that? I will chose what insurance, if any, that I want, NOT the government’s choice made for me. Get a clue and think for yourself.

Craig let me begin by welcoming you to Very Stupid Things. Second, let me inform you that there is a spam filter that blocks certain words and links. It is called technology - I hope you have encountered technology before - we use it for a lot of things! Third, let ME inform YOU!
People without health insurance create a drain on society in the same manner that people without car insurance do. Why do you think you are required to have an uninsured motorists provision on your car policy? It isn’t because the font looks pretty. It is because an uninsured motorist who hits you can end up costing you everything. That provision is to provide for YOU. Having a provision that requires people to get health care does the same thing. When an uninsured person runs to the emergency room for something that they don’t have insurance to cover what do you think happens? Someone has to absorb that bill! Someone has to pay for that! Medical care can run into the thousands for the simplest of procedures if you don’t have health insurance. If you think this is a religious issue, you are very stupid. People who don’t want to use the insurance can die, but that choice is for them to make. They still need to have some insurance just in case they change their minds. It is foolish to think that you know when a health emergency is going to happen. If you do, I need to take you with me to Vegas so I can use your psychic skills. Health care is what I effectively call “In Case Shit”. In case shit happens, you better have some coverage. Cancer doesn’t care how religious you are. Accidents don’t care how religious you are.
Now think about this. Medicare and Social Security are programs that provide for people who didn’t think it was important enough to save during their lives. Those programs give you health care and some money to live off of. Now what do you supposed would happen if people could opt not to pay into those programs? Do you realize what would happen when people like you get into their 60s and need some money to live off of? There would be nothing for you.
Craig you need to think about the bigger picture when you think about health care. The nuts who don’t want their kids vaccinated or want their cancer to go untreated can do so at their own peril. This program is going to look out for them too - even if they don’t want to be looked out for. Nuts never think about the future until they are faced with a problem. Now THAT is very stupid. You better wise up and start thinking for YOURSELF or you might end up dead on a cold floor instead of a hospital bed. Wise up! You will be able to choose your plan - you will just be required to have one. If you already have insurance, your situation doesn’t change. You get subsidies and tax credits. You can’t be denied based on a pre-existing condition. Are there trade offs? Of course. There always are, however, the plan is sound and a good starting point.
As for your 51% estimation, you must be doing that “fuzzy” math that George Bush was doing. Cry about it all you want, but the truth is that it is a good plan and millions of people are going to benefit from it. You might not be wise enough to see it, but take your time and concentrate. Maybe you will realize the truth at some point. If not, at least you will have insurance so you can go see a psychiatrist.

Oh and one more thing Craig - I am an Independent. There are some things I am conservative about and some things that I am liberal about. However, I don’t make my mind up about things until I learn about them. You should follow the same logic. Anything else is just very stupid.

You do realize that the requirement for auto insurance is a state thing, and not a federal thing, right? And that the requirement for auto insurance is for liability for damage you might do to another person or person’s property, not your own, correct? You don’t need to buy auto insurance if you don’t drive a car. How do I get out of buying health insurance if I don’t want it? Why do you feel that you would be paying my bill if I didn’t have health insurance, aren’t doctors and hospitals fully capable of sending me invoices and collecting against me? Why would I even WANT you to pay my doctor bills, it would give you have control over my health decisions.
BTW, I’ve read some other entries in your blog, and you’re not an Independent. I mean you can certainly call yourself whatever you wish, but in the manner that we use language to describe specific thoughts and concepts, “Independent” in the political sense is a complete mischaracterization. At least be honest to your readers.

First, WP Wily don’t be so pedantic. I use auto insurance as an example because it is compulsory - not because it is a state or federal mandate. Second, different states have different requirements on the level of basic insurance you are required to have, BUT the idea is that you have insurance to protect the person you might hit AND yourself - although those requirements vary. The BASIC insurance that some states make you get requires you to have insurance for both YOURSELF and the person you might hit depending on your circumstances (i.e. if you carry a lien against your vehicle, etc.). Now, you might be thinking that auto insurance doesn’t apply to you if you don’t drive, but let me ask you this - who would you sue if you GET HIT by someone who DOES NOT have insurance AND does not have enough money to pay for your injuries? Do you get the point? It doesn’t matter if YOU don’t have a vehicle and don’t buy insurance yourself. Someone who does not have that coverage and hits you can change your life. Insurance is a necessity - both health insurance and auto insurance (if you drive). As for your bills, what happens when people DON’T pay their hospital bills????? It happens all the time. Yes the hospital can come after you, but there comes a point where it is not financially feasible for them to come after you (i.e. it costs more to collect than it does to write off the debt). Does everyone have the money to pay for their hospital care? If you say yes, I would like to know what world you live in. What happens when a hospital has to write off debt? Who, in the long run, ends up paying for that? Most hospitals are subsidized entities. Now guess who ultimately pays for those subsidies my dear…
As for me calling myself independent, I am. Independent in the sense that I am not controlled by a party or interest group - specifically neither Democrat nor Republican. You need to make sure you understand the definition of something W before you say I am not that - although you are entitled to say whatever you want. I look at the situation, take in the information and make judgments about things based on what I feel. I’m conservative in some instances and liberal in others. And as for being honest with my readers, I think they are smart enough to make up their minds for themselves. That is as honest as it can get.

Shelton you got cut off there, but thinking about auto insurance helps put things in perspective. One careless driver can ruin your life if they don’t have insurance. It is a protection. Health insurance is even more necessary than car insurance because EVERY SINGLE ONE OF US HAS A BODY THAT IS GOING TO MALFUNCTION AT SOME POINT….some sooner than others.

I always try and make this argument to conservatives in my state and I honestly think it is the best way to convince people that the health care bill is necessary. I think many people fail to realize that emergency rooms must treat you, and that those without health insurance are all the more likely to end up in the ER as they may not visit a doctor until things get out of hand. People hate uninsured drivers more than communists.

Thomas, the funny thing is that A LOT of people do not think about this. I find it sad that people don’t stop to think about the ramifications of not having health insurance. Most of us think nothing will ever happen to us. I know I did. However, I have health coverage and auto insurance. You never know what you might need in the future and an emergency room isn’t the place for regular office visits to the doctors. I’m glad that there are people like you out there who realize this.
