I must be getting old. I say that because I find myself less and less tolerant of bullshit as the days, months and years go by. I especially feel intolerant about people who want to kill themselves because they are in debt or because someone broke up with them. I think those are two of the most stupid reasons for wanting to kill yourself EVER. However, I do believe that any idiot that decides that being in debt is a reason to kill himself/herself should be given the full go-ahead to go jump off of a bridge. Apparently, I’m not alone in that feeling.

In Beijing, Chen Fuchao decided to kill himself because he was $290, 000 due to a failed construction project. Chen decided that he was going to Haizhu bridge and jump off because of his debt. He went to the bridge and instead of jumping right away, he decided to just sit there for a while. The police tried to talk him down. Traffic on the bridge was backed up for 5 hours because police cordoned off the area.

Lai came along and offered the police his help in talking the guy down. The police said no. Lai went around the police blockade, got over to Chen, offered Chen a handshake and then pushed him off the bridge onto a partially inflated emergency air cushion that authorities had laid out. Chen lived, but has spine and elbow injuries.

I say WAY TO GO Lai! Here were Lai’s words.

“I pushed him off because jumpers like Chen are very selfish. Their action violates a lot of public interest,” Lai was quoted as saying by Xinhua. “They do not really dare to kill themselves. Instead, they just want to raise the relevant government authorities’ attention to their appeals.”

Yes! I think that people who do stuff like that want attention. If you really want to kill yourself, there are far less public ways to do it. If you go to a public bridge during the day, you don’t really want to die. Here is a tip. Instead of being a spineless coward attempting to run away from an unfortunate situation, suck it up and realize that everyone has ups and downs. Instead of holding up everyone else for five hours, take some time and think your way through your problems instead of acting like a wimp. Suicide is a cowardly way to deal with your problems. If you feel that you must, however, I hope that there is a Lai waiting to help you along. There will always be help available to those who seek it. Hopefully there will always be a Lai waiting for those who don’t. Suicide over something like this is very, very stupid!

By the way, killing someone else and yourself is even more stupid.
