There are some people who should just be led out to pasture. Keith Bardwell, justice of the peacein Tangipahoa Parish in Louisiana, refused to issue a marriage license to an interracial couple because he doesn’t believe in mixing the races. He says that he will not marry Blacks and Whites. He said that it is his experience that mixed race marriages don’t last. I could re-quote him, but I think he does a good job of explaining himself.

“I’m not a racist. I just don’t believe in mixing the races that way,” Bardwell told the Associated Press on Thursday. “I have piles and piles of black friends. They come to my home, I marry them, they use my bathroom. I treat them just like everyone else.”

Those are Keith Bardwell’s own words. He said that he came to his determination after talking with Blacks and Whites. He said that he came to the conclusion that most of black society does not readily accept the offspring of such relationships, and neither does white society. Wow! Umm, I guess he has not heard of Barrack Obama or entertainers like Lenny Kravitz or Mariah Carey.

Thirty year old Beth Humphrey and 32-year-old Terence McKay will now need to go somewhere else to get married. I honestly can’t believe that there are still people who think like this in civilized society. The ACLU has contacted the Louisiana Judiciary Committee to ask for an investigation and sanctions against Bardwell. According to the ACLU, Bardwell knew he was breaking the law yet continued to do it.

Bardwell actually believes that he isn’t a racist. He actually seems to believe that he is doing a favor the interracial couples that come to him.

If you think Keith Bardwell is wrong, write to the Louisiana Judiciary Committee to let them know. This type of racial profiling is just horrible.
