I knew it was going to happen. I knew it was only a matter of time before the issue of race came up in the Tiger Woods story. You can read the article here. The article was on Yahoo and it talked about how Tiger’s troubles widened his “problem” with the Black community. Of course, we already know that Tiger doesn’t consider himself to be Black. We know this because he has said as much. I actually agree with him. I think it must be difficult for people of mixed race to classify themselves as one thing because they aren’t one thing. If you love your mom and your dad, and both are of different ethnic backgrounds, I suppose it might feel very difficult to prefer one race over the other. In Tiger’s case, his mother is clearly Asian and his dad was a mix of Black and another ethnic background. We view him as a Black man, but the issue of race is a little more complex.

Anyway, many are now raising the issue that all of the women Tiger has cheated with (there are six so far) are White. His wife, Elin, is also White. In the story, several Black women were interviewed. They were all very negative toward the idea of a Black man dating a White woman - even going as far to say that they would have thought twice about voting for Obama if his wife was White EVEN THOUGH HIS MOTHER WAS WHITE. I found this to be absolutely profound! If a White person said something like that, they would be labeled as racist. They would be castigated and talked about. Why is it that it is OK for a Black person to say something like that but NOT OK for a White person to say something like that?

There is definitely an element of racism tinging this whole Tiger thing; however, I don’t think it is White people who are the culprits. Black people are really having a hard time with the fact that Tiger is bagging all of these White women. I don’t know if Tiger has screwed some Black women or no Black women. In my opinion he is nothing but a filthy cheater no matter what. I don’t know if he prefers White women or if he just hasn’t met a Black woman that he likes - hey it happens. If he prefers to ONLY date White women, then I can understand why Black women may feel slighted. If, however, he just hasn’t met one that he wanted to screw over or just screw, then I think that is different. Tiger is never going to say one way or another.

Some have said that if the women Tiger screwed were Black and his wife was Black, no one would care about what he did. I beg to differ. I think the reason that people care so much about Tiger is because he is so guarded ordinarily. He doesn’t do interviews. He plays things close to the vest. It is intriguing to finally get a look into his personal life. He set himself up on a pedestal by closing himself off and now the veneer is being peeled back and what we see is something very, very ugly. I really do think that the story would be as big if the women were White or Black or Asian or Latino or whatever. The world’s best golfer, who is fiercely private, is now on display and it turns out that he is a serial cheater! That is news!

I think that Black people need to stop focusing on the race of the women Tiger dated. Isn’t complete integration what everyone should be aiming for? Racism is ugly and it doesn’t matter if it is coming from a White person or a Black person. Not wanting or only wanting to date someone of a particular race is just plain stupid. We all have a preference for things, but I don’t think race should matter. A person’s heart should matter. People are people. If you are Black, I want you to ask yourself this - have all of the Black people you have encountered treated you well? If you are White, I want you to ask yourself this - have all of the White people you have encountered treated you well? Exactly! Every White person doesn’t treat every other White person well and every Black person doesn’t treat every other Black person well. There is good and bad in everyone and it is just plain stupid to not love each other. Tiger, in my humble opinion, is a dirty, nasty, filthy cheating man-whore, but the race of his “victims” really shouldn’t be an issue. Racism is just very stupid! Can’t we all just get along?
