How is it that people who need to lose weight have not made the connection that nothing comes free in life? You didn’t pack on the pounds overnight and you aren’t going to get rid of them overnight - no matter how many infomercials tell you that you will. The FDA has just declared yet another weight loss drug as unsafe and pulled it from the market. Hydroxycut has bit the dust.

According to published reports, the government is warning dieters and body builders Friday to immediately stop using Hydroxycut. According to them, it can cause serious liver damage and it has caused at least one death. The company that makes the drug, according to the Food and Drug Administration, has agreed to recall 14 Hydroxycut products. At least 9 million packages were sold last year according to FDA information.

Part of the problem, in my humble opinion, is that the FDA doesn’t jump in until after something goes wrong when it comes to dietary supplements. In fact, the FDA has no authority to review supplements before they are marketed. They examine what happens from a post-market perspective. However, according to published reports, in recent years companies have been put under stricter requirements to alert the FDA when they learn of problems. The government monitors what is happening after the drug gets out into the market. The government banned ephedra in 2004 because it was linked to heart attacks and strokes. Isn’t that stupid? Put it out there first and ask questions later? Who has the power to give them the authority? Shouldn’t the FDA get that power?

On second thought, fat people need to stop looking for a quick way out. Instead of taking all of these drugs and pills, get your ass up and exercise. Exercise is free and you don’t need pills to do it. The problem, in my opinion, is that people look for excuses NOT to do what is required to get out of the situation they are in. I went to one woman’s blog a few months ago. She was trying to lose weight, yet she talked about going to the ice cream store when she shouldn’t have and going to fast food places when she shouldn’t have and doing this and that when she shouldn’t have. I was completely disgusted!!! I wasn’t disgusted because she was fat and trying to lose weight. I was disgusted because she was taking the seriousness of her situation lightly. This woman had 5 kids and yet she would not control herself enough to focus on what she needed to do. I might have been rough on her, but I think she deserved it. Life isn’t a dress rehearsal and when you have 5 kids you need to focus on doing what you have to do to be there for the - which means stopping yourself when you want to go to fucking Dairy Queen! I hope that people who hear about this ban, stop wasting time with drugs and focus on being healthy and exercising. It can save your life.

Some of the patients experienced symptoms ranging from jaundice, or yellowing of the skin, to liver failure. One received a transplant and another was placed on a list to await a new liver. The patients were reportedly otherwise healthy and their symptoms began after they started using Hydroxycut according to regulators.

The company that makes the drugs, Iovate Health Sciences, said in a statement that the 2007 death of the teenager was not caused by Hydroxycut. The statement went on to say that “The number of adverse event reports described by the FDA in its advisory is small relative to the many millions of people who have used Hydroxycut products over the past seven years. Iovate’s own assessment of the potential risk associated with the use of these products differs from that expressed by the FDA.” Whatever!

People…..start exercising and stop trying to diet drug your way out of obesity! Fucking exercise! It will save your life.
